Kim Hyelyn’s work embodies the process of encountering, bearing, and releasing emotion through the visual language of flowers. She began with addressing her feelings towards her family. Gradually, the flowers serve as an integral medium of emotion in her art.

The artist says that abrupt strike of emotion ‘penetrates’ her and seeks to capture the moment in her works. Unexpected feelings sweep over her and they drift on the inner side. Her brushstrokes fix floating emotions on the canvas. In her work, first intense brushstrokes determine the figuration and colour. Then precise touches complete the flower, creating a condensed visualisation of emotions.
